Sinulog Photo Contest ID

First of all, Happy New Year to all the people out there. Since it is the first day of the year, I will start this year by highlighting by nothing more than the Sinulog Festival 2012 as my first post.

Though the holidays are all over for some. Here in Cebu , the party extends up to three weeks for the various events and celebrations for the Sinulog 2012 mardi gras. Yes, there maybe few days of rest after the holidays but this probably the biggest event here in Cebu and even as we speak, lots of preparations are already on the way like hotel reservations, school dance practice, food, street parties, contingents from other cities and many more.

This is also a very exciting event for me (not only as a blogger) , but also as one of the contestants in the Sinulog Photo Contest. It is my first time to join a photography contest so it is kinda exciting and nerve wracking at the same time. Though my purpose really is not to be in the first place but to gain access to some of the spots to get better shots. I am always hopping to have a shot (lucky shot that is lol).

The contest is open to all professional and amateur (me) photographers and you will just have to register in their Sinulog Foundation Office located in Abellana school where it is also where the grand parade and stage performance will happen. The application fee is not really that cheap for 1000 pes0s 0_o , and the limit of number of contestants are 2000 which is similar to last year.

The fee includes a Sinulog ID Pass, a Canon ID Strap and the Official Sinulog Photography Contestant t-shirt (I really thought it was a vest or something)

Here are the guidelines if you are in Cebu want to join the photo contest.

1. Modes of Picture Take being considered.

Film Category – Any analog camera film size/format can be used, as long as the final entry must be a printed (5”x7”)

Digital Category – Digital Cameras that are capable of taking Raw Format Files, APS format cameras are eligible.

2. Photo Contest Categories – All activities involving Sinulog 2012.

a. Contingent – competing or guest participants of Sinulog 2012 grand parade on January 15, 2012. Picture must be group dancing the Sinulog and not of a solo dancer.

b. Fluvial and Solemn Processions – January 14, 2012, the miraculous image is sea borne along the coasts of Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu cities while the solemn procession passes through the principal streets of Cebu City.

c. Float/Higante and Puppeteers – January 15, 2012, pictures of float, higante and puppeteers must include the whole structure and not the personalities on board the float. Float, puppeteers and higante shots should include the carrier inside the contraption.

d. Décor/Arch and sidelights – These pictures may be taken anytime (day or night) of arches and décor set up for Sinulog 2012. Sidelights are human interest pictures taken in the parade route on Sinulog day, or in any other activity taken during the Sinulog week starting on January 2, 2012.

e. Festival Queen – Photo to be taken while subject is dancing during the Search for Sinulog Festival Queen 2012 on January 13, 2012 at the Cebu City Sports Center and during the grand parade on January 15, 2012.

Hotel Elizabeth Cebu Turns 1

This is the third hotel I have visited this month so my mind is still very fresh in terms of reviewing and writing about hotels here in Cebu. This time, we got the chance to tour around the rooms with its amenities. They just celebrated their anniversary and we were invited to celebrate and have a tour around their rooms.

First we went to their most expensive Executive Penthouse Suite which roughly cost 13k 0_o , really cozy place with almost perfect amenities , state of the art and clean comfort rooms comparable to 5 Star Hotel.

Then we went to their Penthouse Suite, Executive Suite and Deluxe Rooms. Also like the theme of their rooms which has the mediterranean style setting. Though it is kinda expensive (personally lol ), the service is really very good for a new hotel. The location is also very ideal for those who want to be at the heart of the city, just a few meters away from Ayala Center Cebu, Cebu Business Park and also from my workplace :) . The staff are also very accomodating and our tour guide XD did a great job in showing and elaborating us each rooms.

Supposedly the event will be royalty but I rather go in a formal attire rather than dress up or something like that, I know there are a lot of my colleagues are thinking the same thing. But since this is my first royalty event, I choose to wear a bit formal (like a casual royalty prince sort of thing lol..haha ).

The event started of course with intermission numbers , dance/song numbers (those familiar stuff you see in most events , nothing new really :D ). It is also nice to see some hidden talents you never expected to see coming from unexpected people. There is also the “Star of the Night” contest wherein the person with the most eye catching royalty costume will be chosen as the winner. The winner of that is the one with the ragnarok soldier like type with matching lights :D which really is deserving with all the setup and props and stuff :D . But the one who got the most attention was the “Arabian loyalty” guy with 2 bodyguards (also employees) roam around the stage and people just screaming for fun for the simple but unique idea, too bad he didn’t won XD.

The highlight primarily of the event is the Group presentation contest wherein different departments presented their royalty themed presentations which they have to battle it out in front of the crowd with their stage presence, entertainment abilities :) and with audience impact participation. It was an entertaining show with all the gags and laughs and again, too bad, our department didn’t won:/

And after that is of course the food, though I didn’t want to include food reviews here but I just can’t let this passed by, for a big hotel here in Cebu, I expected their food to be somewhat tasty, but to my disappointment, it was not at tasty at all (maybe a little to harsh) but that is the point. I mean it was a buffet dinner and there were lots of choices but most of them didn’t taste that great (tasteless, iced tea was like a medicine), in fact one of my colleagues said that the food was like in a hospital (kinda tasteless). I was also assuming that their chef is a foreigner so that’s why the food is not what we used to taste (lame reason really).

Anyways, another reason why I went to the event is because of the raffle draws (who wouldn’t want to win eh), but it seems my luck in raffle draws has run out and then again, I didn’t win anything.. :/

Overall it was a great event, I don’t know if we will have this again next year. It also a very good way to end the year with all the work done throughout the calendar :D
