Scheduled by Tuesday night March 19, 2019, President Duterte will have an official meeting with the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) to discuss about the water shortage affecting the parts of Metro Manila and Rizal province. It was schedule exactly 6:30 pm Tuesday according to the Duterte’s spokesperson Salvador Panelo.
“We wish to assure the President that MWSS is doing its best to solve the water shortage problem and we are putting to task Manila Water to give us a definitive timeline of solving their distribution and operations systems to bring back to normal level the water supply to ease the suffering of the consuming public,” Velasco said in a statement last Saturday.
Velasco also added that the short and long term solution for Metro Manila’s water supply demand are now in the place and on pace to provide enough and sufficient water to supply the future needs of the 20 million resident in the metropolis including the nearby province serviced by its three (3) concessionaires in the next 10 to 15 years.
The reason Manila Water has been implementing water interruptions in several areas in Metro Manila and Rizal is to ensure that the supply water will last until the month of June or the rainy season will come. Expecting that there will be a lesser rainfall in the coming months because of the EL Niño phenomenon. Residential areas, schools, and even hospitals are being affected by the water shortage problem.
