Is it just me or the free service (hosting) is slowly to decline. It has been happening a while now and I feel a little bit uneasy about the slowly closing of some free service (hosting files).
Okay, lets start with google, the search engine giant has been around for a long time, expecting that they will (of course) upgrade their services and improve quality. Just a few months ago (probably in the first quarter of the year), they announced that google pages will be replace (not remove) by the google sites, which means you cannot upload files (to be used in pages). It is understandable though because of the increasing members and population of the web. And most of them applied or used google pages for free storage of their files especially for blogs.
Next with yahoo, I just received an email early this month , stated that yahoo geocities will no longer operate and will be closed (waahh!). To think that it already existed for a long time (I think everyone with geocities account received the email). It is really sad personally because it was the site where I build by first website when I was in high school. Maybe because of the growing popularity of blogsites and the many free blog and social bookmarking services that faded the geocities popularity.
Maybe these companies are now changing strategy when it comes to reaching the internet users. For now, no doubt the social networking sites dominate the web with increasing members and popularity.
I just hope that they will not remove the blogspot free services or make payments out of it in the future.
