Over the past year, I have been walking in the streets of Fuente Osmena (Center of Cebu City). It is a really great place to walk around especially in late afternoon. Many people from downtown prefer to stroll for a walk here rather than ride a jeepney (expensive fare). But off all the crowds here, many street chidren are still in the area. Most of them are ages 10 down (wild guess), it’s very sad to see these children just roaming around begging for a few coins. Though I myself admitted to be a snob in these sightings, It really bothers me to think where are the parents/guardians of these children?!…
Most common stories about this children are that they came from the province in which they are living peacefully, not financially big but able to live everyday lives. Their parents hope to find a better life in the city (bringing the children here). And come up empty handed and unable to go home so they ended up in the streets.
These kind of situations is already common to many but the question is, why would risk themselves going to the city without any guarantee that they will have a more prosperous life??, knowing that they are have a much better life in the province rather than the city.
